The Master of Leadership Development (MLD) program at Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College is a 36-credit hour program that can be completed in one year. It has traditionally been offered in a hybrid format where students attend a residency on campus once every 8 weeks and is now also offered fully online.
Students who have graduated from our MLD program have been notably successful. Several have used their leadership project to solve a current problem in their workplace. Accordingly, many have received raises, promotion and honors for their display of leadership. Some have created business plans and went on to create their own small businesses. The program boasts strong teaching from professors with distinguished credentials and expertise. It is built to enhance the leadership skills of the individual and to enable them to achieve within the context of their current working environment.
There are five courses making up 15 credit hours at the core of the program and they are as follows:
The program also contains focus area courses in Organizational Leadership and Not-For-Profit. Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College would be proud to become a resource for mid-level leadership personnel in the military. The Leadership Development master’s program is well-suited to synchronize with the unique leadership skills and needs of military leaders. It is our recommendation that the following classes from the current focus areas be added to the core curriculum in a program designed for military use:
The remaining nine hours (3 courses) should be courses designed to meet the unique leadership needs of military leaders. They, together with the previously mentioned courses, will combine and lead the student to their own unique leadership project. There are at least two ways we could proceed with the military-specific courses. The courses could be transferred into Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College as part of a transcript review. The curriculum could also be brought to our college and approved by the Graduate Council of SMWC and become part of the 36-hour requirements for the program. We are very open and interested in utilizing military instructors to deliver these courses. With just a little training on our Learning Management System, this could be easily accomplished. The instructors would be compensated in the same way as other college-level adjunct instructors.
The Military Leadership Focus could be offered in the hybrid format or the totally online format and could be offered on a time schedule that is negotiated by the military partners and the College. Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College has achieved both Yellow Ribbon and Military-Friendly designations. We are eager to add a graduate-level program to our outreach. We have processes in place to allow for the need to suspend class attendance due to deployment and to create an easy admission process.
Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College is an institution with a rich tradition of serving its students well. We are eager to explore a new partnership with the Department of Defense and military personnel.
